During the 2017 fires in Sonoma, firefighter Jonathan Martinez’s engine crew was in Kenwood working on a hillside. He heard one of his partners yell “Rock!”

Daniel Yount* remembers the exact day he began to experience COVID-19 symptoms. It was March 17. At first, he thought his high fever and headache were flu symptoms, but when he contacted his doctor, she asked if he could have been infected with the novel coronavirus. He didn’t think he’d come in contact with anyone who was infected and so after discussing his symptoms they ruled out COVID-19.

As Paul Lemieux drove home from work on the first day of September, he was overcome with a sudden, sharp headache. When his vision and thoughts became distorted, he knew he was in trouble and pulled off the road.

Two weeks before Barbara Winiarski’s death, she and husband, Warren, made a transformational gift of $5.1 million to Napa Valley’s Queen of the Valley Foundation. The gift will fund a 208-bed acute care facility in Napa.
