A Heartfelt Gift Establishes The Warren and Barbara Winiarski Stroke and Diagnostics Center
Two short weeks before Barbara Winiarski’s death, she and husband, Warren, through their Winiarski Family Foundation, made a transformational gift of $5.1 million to Napa Valley’s Queen of the Valley Foundation during its annual Generous Heart gala. The gift will fund a 208-bed acute care facility in Napa, to be named The Warren and Barbara Winiarski Stroke and Diagnostics Center.
The new center will include a GE Healthcare Revolution Apex CT machine, the only one of its kind in the region. This advanced technology will improve diagnostic capabilities and response times in the Emergency Department (ED). The CT scanner’s location enables nearby ED physicians to be in close proximity when needed to attend to a critical patient who is being scanned.
The gift was announced via video at the event, where Warren and Barbara shared:
“This gift is important to me personally because I’ve had to use the emergency facilities a number of times and so has Barbara. And it’s been a resource in this Valley for our employees. It’s important to have this CT machine available on a moment’s notice…for anyone who comes into the ED with a life threatening or undetermined ailment.” —Warren Winiarski
“Napa Valley is our home. We want everyone in our community family to have the benefit of the best technology available when they have an emergency. Queen of the Valley managed my care when I had a stroke—we are so grateful to have the hospital close by in our community.” —Barbara Winiarski
The center will be a great enhancement in providing critical care for the 30,000 trauma, stroke and patients with emergent needs who are treated in the Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center ED annually.
“We are eternally grateful for the philanthropy of donors like the Winiarski family. Their gift will reduce the time it takes to determine the extent and complexity of injuries and begin treatment. This state-of-the-art suite signals to the community we are committed to providing the highest quality of care to all our community members.” —Terry Wooten, chief executive at Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center
